POWERHOUSE

PowerHouse is the name of the Temple of Praise youth ministry and it was initiated in 1993 by the late, beloved, Evangelist Ardenia E. Johnson, who envisioned a powerful, energetic youth group that was radical for Christ. Many years of labor were invested in reaching the youth of Canton, Mississippi and the work started as a miniature mustard seed. However, PowerHouse, has experienced steady growth and sustained attendance, thereby enabling our church to impact not only the children, but also many of the families of our community.

This generation of youth is in dire need of guidance, direction, recognition and affirmation. Sometimes they just need a little bit of old fashioned Christian love and attention to brighten their world and broaden their perspective. Powerhouse provides new avenues for the instruction of their inquisitive minds and positive channels to harness their overflowing levels of energy. Although the message of the Gospel is always foremost, PowerHouse also provides opportunities for personal development with: social skills, music, singing, public speaking, and leadership training at every age level.

Finally, PowerHouse challenges the youth to reach their God-given potential. It is through our youth ministry that we as a church aim to meet Jesus’ directive to, “suffer the little children to come unto me for such is the kingdom of heaven.” We not only teach the youth scriptural knowledge, but we also give them opportunities to experience it by sponsoring plays for the Easter and Christmas seasons. Even as they daily interact with each other, they are taught to apply the word of God to life’s every day situations. Annual youth camp meetings are scheduled for the month of July to break the monotony of the summer.
